BEST OF BREED EMR'S CAN BRING A POSITIVE RETURN ON INVESTMENT (ROI)

Managing paper medical records can be a tedious and often labor intensive process requiring many FTE's to manage this process. Additionally while staffers are constantly begging the question, "Where's the chart? Has anyone seen the chart?", HIM personnel are focused on keeping up with the chart, all of the chart, and nothing but the chart. Paper charts are often misplaced, misfiled, and can often be misunderstood due to illegibility.
EMR's have a positive impact on the ROI process by facilitating a completed record as well as a more complete record retrieval. Administration recognizes that using an effective EMR is definitely the way to go however, are burdened with the questions of cost, timelines, etc. An Emergency Department encounter is billed timely and completely because all charting guidelines are met and charts are completed when they are electronically signed. Coders are able to code faster and more efficiently due to readability and accessibility to the essential elements of the complete record.
Having a Best of Breed EMR is essential to ensure compliance with all guidelines and requirements of regulatory bodies related to the Emergency Department. Best of Breed products are well accepted by ER staff and most often contain everything they need to document efficiently, effectively and timely. Best of Breed EMR's often contain all required forms for the Emergency Department. By using a complete charting tool rather than a fragmented application, administration has immediate access to all needed reports and necessary data for the Emergency Department .
CMR delivers all of the above and more to our customers. Upon implementation of CMR we work with you before, during, and after implementation to ensure that each facility does in fact see their ROI. At each customer installation, we have shown an increase in charge capture coupled with a decrease in length of stay and effective compliance from the staff, producing a positive and rewarding return on your investment.

TIP OF THE MONTH

A Critical Care form is available on physician validation with an applicable diagnosis and disposition. Upon accessing this link the physician has two areas to check, the first is the patient condition and the other is the time spent in critical care. This form will help to ensure appropriate charge capture for critical care patients. Using this form creates a note on the physician record as well as a note on the final APC/Facility Level sheet prompting review for possible critical care.

FROM THE EDITOR

CMR is proud to take this month's issue to focus on Return on Investment. A traditional ROI analysis weighs the financial impact of operating expenses with the revenue gains from service delivery.
If projected revenue gains exceed costs then the investment is justified. We are proud that CMR has accomplished this for our existing customers. CMR offers a low upfront cost and ROI is easily measured early after implementation. Give us a call today and let CMR, show you the money!
